Earlier this week I did a review on a very functional and popular waterproof hiking jacket from Marmot, the Aegis. While researching that I actually came across another very functional and popular option from Marmot, the Marmot Precip Jacket.
Again, the look, functionality and the amount of great reviews the jacket has received caught my eye so I thought further investigation was definitely worth it.

Review
As with the men's version of this jacket, the women's Marmot Precip jacket has a very high customer rating across a large selection of users. Scoring an average 4.5 stars out of 5 across 60+ reviews say's a lot. So as with the men's version, the Marmot Precip jacket is obviously a very popular choice when looking for a new rain shell jacket!
Moving onto the technical specifications of this jacket. Waterproof wise, the women's Precip comes in at 15,000 mm and has a breathable rating of 12,000. To learn more about what these ratings mean, check out this post about understanding waterproof fabric. These are pretty good numbers but it is worth mentioning again that there is no industry standard per se so I tend to take some of these numbers with a pinch of salt.
The proof is in the pudding though and from checking out tests on the women's Precip it does hold up well when it comes to waterproofness. The Precip is fully seam sealed and has a storm flap over the main zip to further help with it's waterproof capabilities and cinches on the cuffs. For added ventilation, the jacket also boasts pit zips which are always a nice feature to have.
The Marmot Precip women's rain jacket can accommodate angel wing movement, you can swing your arms in circles without the jacket riding up your back, and by first hand accounts it seems to work very well. Therefore the Precip offers good mobility and movement without the jacket ending up half way up your back.
The cut of the Precip is nice and seems to present a standard enough fit that should be adequate for most. However, to add to this, many user reviews mention that the Precip does leave enough room for layering which is of course a key requirement for a hiker.
The Precip is lightweight and easily stowable. It actually packs into it's own front pocket which is handy to store away in your day pack or back pack.
As with all waterproof hiking jackets, the Precip comes with a nice hood which is brimmed and boasts a moisture-wicking DriClime®-lined chin guard. This adds some extra protection for your neck and face in particularly harsh weather!
For pockets, the Precip comes with two standard hand warmer pockets and two mesh hip pockets on the inside. This is pretty reasonable storage but I would like another pocket, a Napoleon one would be a nice addition but I am probably being a bit picky 😉
This jacket will be a good companion while out on the trail. It will keep you dry and is handy to pack away and carry. It's a popular jacket that's been around for a long time which is nearly always a good supporting indicator of good quality. As with the men's Precip, the high level of positive user ratings and reviews over a long time shouldn't be ignored. If you're on this one!
Customer Reviews
