Overview
We should start by asking, are these pants functional? In a nut-shell, yes. The Arc'teryx Palisade hiking pants for women are a great pair of pants for the average hiker. Functionally, first off, we should look at how they are constructed. Made from nylon (94%) and spandex (6%), the pants are made to be flexible and stretchy. That requirement is simply a must when hiking on the trail.
The nylon and spandex make-up also lends itself to help make the pants lightweight and breathable. Again, really important functionality to look for in a pair of hiking pants.
Finally, in the area of material make-up, the TerraTex™ technology used in these pants means the pants are quick drying should you get caught in a rain burst while out hiking. These kind of functionalities are often unsung in good hiking pants but it really is the bread and butter of what you need for a comfortable hiking experience.
Fit and Comfort
As well as the all important functionality, you need comfort when putting miles in on the trail. If you break that down, you need a pair of hiking pants that are a comfortable and pleasant fit.
To that end, the waist in these pants is adjustable via an integrated webbing waist belt. It also features brushed polyester on the inside to help prevent chaffing, something you most definitely want to avoid while hiking for long stretches of the day. The articulated patterning and gusseted crotch also lend themselves to comfort and and fit, enabling good movement and freedom.
On the downside, the Arc'teryx Palisade pants aren't waterproof or water resistant. I would normally prefer a bit of water repellency of some form in hiking pants but if they dry quickly, they should be fine for most of the year round as long as you have a pair of waterproof over trousers on hand.
Fully waterproof rain pants should be standard in your hiking kit when heading out on a wet day so if you have those, you should be good to go.
Pockets and Storage
For storage, the pockets on these pants are pretty much standard. There are slash hand pockets and two cargo pockets with laminated zippers, these are of a good size so a map should fit in comfortably.
I like the fact the cargo pants have zips. It's easy to lose stuff when hiking, especially at speed. Having handy and accessible secure pockets that are easy to access without having to stop and fiddle with your day pack, is a really neat thing to have.
Price
So what about the greenbacks? How many do you need to part with to get these nice looking hiking pants?
Well, these pants aren't cheap in relation to other hiking pants in the same range, definitely at the higher end of the scale. However, sometimes I think it is fair to equate price to quality and I think that is the case here. Click on any of the links on this review to get a live price.
Arc-teryx seem to be a higher end brand name for sure so I think for those extra dollars, you can be assured you're getting good quality. So, as with anything, you get what you pay for.

Conclusion
So, in conclusion, if you're in the market for a ladies pair of hiking pants, you should put the Arc'teryx Palisade pants on your review list. They have all the functionality I would look for in a good pair of hiking pants.
They're not waterproof but that's not a big issue if you have rain pants which should always be your main source of rain protection anyway. In all honesty, I would look normally look for a bit or water repellency in a pair of hiking pants though.
In saying that, I think these pants will do the trick moat of the year round for an average hiker. They are a bit more on the expensive side to what I would normally expect to pay for hiking pants but everything I read about the quality of Arc'teryx gear seems to merit that bit higher of a price tag. They definitely have some top class gear for sure!
